Is a Reverse Osmosis System For Your Home?
Companies that sell reverse osmosis systems (RO) make some pretty far out claims. Some say that RO will remove almost 100% of the bad elements (contaminants) from tap water. The fact of truth is that reverse osmosis can not remove chemicals such as chlorine, drugs and other chemicals from your home water system.

how important is a deionization unit for home water purification system (reverse osmosis)?
the deionization unit adds 25% to the cost, so I'm wondering how much value does it really add

Jack certainly offers valid suggestions, and I may just be too old school, ignorant to GET the question.
25% added to what cost? The plumbing and installation? The water bill? Medical bills incurred from NON system water?
I'm even more curious about how one equates purification for assumed health benefits; to any cost of install or costs for use.
No offense, and not knowing at all where you are; or where your household water comes from; I've been on tap water since I was a baby, and at 64, have never suffered any ill effects.

Depends on what it is in your water that the RO unit wouldn't get out. I think that for most places that would be extreme overkill. It will leave your water pretty tasteless.
