How did he know?
A cop was walking his "beat" when he heard a woman scream, "No John, No!!!" He hears a gunshot afterwards.
From the sound of the gunshot he knew exactly where the incident occured.
He knocks the door down and finds a dead female body on the floor with the gun beside her.
Across the room stood a lawyer, an electrician, and a plumber.
Without saying a single word, the cop takes out his cuffs and arrests the plumber.
After further investigations, the cop finds out that the plumber was the killer.

The Cop has never met these people.
