The pressure in my new boiler keeps dropping. Is my plumber liable for the repair?
From previous answers it would appear that the reason for the drop in pressure is because of a leaky radiator. I just had the boiler installed 2 days ago by a corgi registered plumber.
Does anyone know whether the plumber should have done a pressure check before commencing the installation and whether the buck stops with him when it comes to this problem?
Its not standard practise to do a pressure test prior to installation and he should have pre warned you about the possibility of this happening.
Any reputable company will come back and repair any leaks as a matter of goodwill.
Tracing the leak shouldn't be to big a problem,although floor board will have to be lifted if the leak is not at a radiator or the boiler.
If he's not playing ball,then he's nothing more than a cowboy,and you could report him.

if he put the boiler onto existing pipework, not really his fault if the pipework is "not up to scratch" is it

yes he is, the boiler is still under guaranty and he should have made sure all the central heathing radiators were in good condition. If not he must be a cowboy. insist on the service if nothing is done report him to the trading standard officer.

to save your money it's better to drop the temperature in the boiler down as his environment, and check for yourself first because it can take a lot of time and time is money.
-lower the temperature
-check the connectionpoints the man made after one our
-if you see any drops of water coming out somewhere that is the leak.
-before you do any repair yourself : bring the pressure down !
important: to check the leak: low temperature and high pressure! to repare: no pressure on the boiler and leads!

Yes, it could a leak, or a crack in the boiler. If its cast iron check with oil man or gas co. not the person who instald it.rosdog2

I would have thought any self respecting tradesman would have run a pressure test on the installation, for the amount of time it takes. Even more so fitting a new boiler to an existing system, if he is corgi registered then surely he guarantees his work?

The answer is no. Pressure checks are only carried out on new installations. He cannot be held responsible for a leaky rad.

you have to ask yourself did the plumber mess about with your rads or pipework to cause the leak ..and you certainly have one ..and if you can say no he only fitted the boiler ..then how the hell can you even think of blaming him be fair these guys are not all ways to blame ..ask yourself did you have a problem before ..did you have to bleed the rads
